The Central Green development in downtown Kelowna has been receiving a lot of attention. Most recently, a nice long feature in the May 28th, 2016 edition of the Vancouver Sun.
The article goes on to talk about all of the features of the development - read the full piece here.
The facets that make me proud to be an artist involved in this project and company that the article doesn't talk about is the Mission Group's mandate to feature locally produced artwork while also building to LEED standards - which "requires the site to be well connected to transit centres and requires water-wise landscaping, special horizontal and vertical blinds to reduce solar heat...". Take it from someone born and raised in the Okanagan. Water conservancy, heat and subsequent risk of forest fire in the region are greatly impacted by the building practices of Okanagan-based developments.
