Art on the Line's feature wall on campus at UBC Okanagan this week features the work of artist and curator of the Lake Country Public Art Gallery, Katie Brennan, visual arts professor Samuel Roy-Bois, and 4th year BFA student Nicole Young. All these great pieces will be in this years auction! — at UBC Okanagan.
The decision to give to art auctions is something artist's are called to consider again and again. I choose what I donate to very carefully.
One recent donation is to Art on the Line, an annual fundraiser, and super fun art event, put on at the University of British Columbia's Okanagan campus. I have a long history with this institution - I studied here for the first two years of my BFA, and much later on, came back to teach there.
This auction goes towards the costs of mounting a year end exhibition and catalogue and helps graduating students out greatly. My piece, this year, is the blue and orange one on the left.
This piece was an off shoot of my "Clouds and Other Sky Phenomenon" series. It also riffs on some of the line work from the Banff Water series. For this piece I was thinking a lot about celestial beings and things that emanate light - the Buddha comes to mind.
If you're interested in this piece and your live in the Okanagan, drop by the Art on the Auction at UBC Okanagan on Saturday, Feb 7th. Details here
I'm very much looking forward to the graduating exhibition at UBC Okanagan, as I do every year.
